H1N1/Flu Vaccine Update
Posted on: 02/09/2010
We are now offering H1N1 vaccine at your scheduled well visit. Be sure to ask your provider if you have not yet been vaccinated or require a booster dose. H1N1 vaccine may also be requested at a scheduled sick visit and will be provided based on the providers' discretion of your child's illness that day. Seasonal flu vaccine is available for children under age three years only and will be offered at scheduled appointments based on product availability.
All on-line requests for flu vaccine have been addressed, however if you have not yet received a call from our office and wish to schedule an appointment for H1N1 vaccine, please call our office for an appointment.
Please review the H1N1 Vaccine Information Statement below so you are well informed.
The current supply of H1N1 vaccine is in injectable form and contains thimerosal. Preservative free H1N1 vaccine and the nasal H1N1 vaccine are no longer available. All H1N1 vaccine is interchangeable; therefore, boosters can be received in any form. For example; if your child received a nasal H1N1 vaccine for the first dose and requires a booster, they may receive the injectable vaccine for the booster dose.
Please print, complete and bring the Influenza Screening Form with you to your appointment.
Most H1N1 questions are about thimerosal. Thimerosal is a mercury-based preservative used in multi-dose vials. All of our H1N1 vaccine contains thimerosal as a preservative. The substantial risk of complications or death from influenza disease outweighs the unproven risk of vaccination with thimerosal-containing vaccine.
